1368 A.D. - 1900 A.D.
The Forbidden City was the home to 24 emperors of two dynasties. The two dynasties were the Ming (1368 - 1644) and the Qing (1644 - 1900). The Qing dynasty was the last Chinese dynasty and the last emperor was Henry Puyi of the Qing dynasty. The Forbidden City was where the last 24 emperors lived and was only for wealthy and powerful people. The city was less of a city and more of a palace or a political center and to some it was a home. On this trip we ask that you do not disturb its residents or the emperor unless you are told you may. The city is a total of 178 acres and there are 8,886 rooms in the Forbidden City. The city has a 26 ft tall wall and is surrounded by a moat of water. There are two courts, the inner court and the outer court. You will be visiting the inner court because that is the court where the royals lived. You are likely to see that most of the roofs are yellow, This is because yellow was a royal color in china. Only the library, has a black roof. This is because black symbolizes water so they made the roof black so it did not burn. The city faces south because south stands for holiness. There are three main halls in the inner court: the Palace of Heavenly Purity, the Hall of Union, and the Palace of Earthly Tranquility. It is important and amazing to see a stronghold like this that is still here today. We will provide you with clothes of that time because if you are suspected to be a commoner you will be executed without question.
