The silk road has many places to stop and trade but Xi'an is one of the more popular places in China. The silk road itself is around 5,000 mi long (about 8,050 km). The silk road get's it's name from the Chinese silk that was traded all along it. Xi'an provides food, water, rest, and goods for trade for many travelers and traders alike. The silk road provided much of China's wealth by trade of goods like silk, jade, porcelain, rice, tea, and even religion. Cultures from other areas included Greek (art, mathematics, science, and wine), Roman (Latin and Christianity), Indian (spices, dyes, and ivory) and many more. In the streets of Xi'an you are likely to see street vendors, dance, musicians, and proselytizers. It is important to see this place because this was one of the first ways for more than one culture to come together. Because of all of the different cultures you are likely to hear a lot of different, new languages in the market. It is also very amazing to see how this one place is a part of one big thing. You have to be very, very careful of robbers because they will blend right in with everyone else. You'll also want to beware of of bombarding peddlers trying to sell you goods. Despite the robbers you can go shopping in this amazing market, you will be provided with some silver at your request to spend on anything you want.
