The Great Wall of China is one of the amazing 7 wonders of the ancient world. It's full length is about 13,170 mi. (about 21,196 km). The wall was built to keep out the mongols, the Chinese's neighbors, so you are likely to see a few mongols attempting to get into China. People always say The Great Wall of China is just one wall, but in truth it is many wall segments. Many people were used to build The Great Wall of China, although the main population of workers were salves. You will see that the majority of workers have brick or stones either on their back or in their hands, this is because they did not have cranes, cement trucks, or loaders. You will see tall towers every two miles along the wall, they are called watchtowers. They are used by lighting a fire inside to create smoke to signal the next tower that they are under attack, the process continues until they can get militarily support, or the battle is over. The wall was originally commissioned by Qin Shihuang and took 20 years to build. Years later the Ming Dynasty took the project back into construction to extend the wall and to rebuild the parts that were falling apart. One of the reasons you should visit The Great Wall of China is because of it's historical importance. It was a symbol of China's strength and power. If you are bringing kids this might not be the best site for you because 1,000,000 people died building this ancient wall. It is known as the longest cemetery in the world. Will you see one of those unlucky million? Also, you must be careful not to be seen by the supervisors of the wall or else you may be "accidentally" put to work.
